SQF – Safety and Quality Assurance in Global Food Production, Storage and Supply

The need to have a standardized mechanism to certify the quality and safety of food produced is evident. SQF is a quality management certification program that guarantees safety and quality of food from production, storage and supply.

SQF is a safety and quality assurance management initiative that aims at promoting best practices internationally in food safety and quality. The program has been designed to provide fundamental ideas to food retailers and producers in quality control and high safety standards of food they deal with. The global initiative undertaken by the Food Marketing Institute (FMI) under its recently established SQF Institute (SQFI) has promoted regulatory control in agricultural production systems, food processing plants, food retailers and distribution networks in the best interest of attaining high quality and safe food for global consumption.

The Purpose of SQF Program:

The purpose of the SQF program is to actually provide assurance to the global population that the food they are consuming is by far fit for them. Categorically the program looks at key areas of food production all through to processing and packaging. Furthermore it takes close attention on storage and supply methods to remove any faults that may in one way or another contaminate the quality of the food in question. The program is implemented by the SQFI institute which is actually a subsequent branch of the Food Marketing institute (FMI). International retailers have taken the SQF program which in the last15yers has undergone tremendous development indeed.
