Source Inspection Audit

What is Source Inspection Audit ?

Source inspection audit is the inspection of purchased products and process records at the supplier’s premises to verify compliance with requirements before shipment to the client. Examines the customer purchased product that is performed at the supplier’s facility to verify product integrity and conformance to specified requirements prior to delivery. It involves the process of examination on a finished product before shipment in order to test the conformance of sub assemblies may be obscured and thus impossible to subsequently inspect as the assembly is built up. Also, serves as the first inspection of a production piece that checks for compliance with engineering drawings. Tests castings, forgings and machine parts to prove tooling before embarking on production runs. The source inspection audit is performed on electronic assemblies in order to prove the effectiveness of the production process before committing to order quantities. Pre-cap inspection typically takes place prior to sealing or encapsulating high-reliability micro electronic components in cases where compliance with military space or international specifications is critical.

Who should Pursue?

  • Companies and organizations that see the need to examine a customer purchased product at the supplier’s facility with the intention to verify product integrity and conformance to specified requirements prior to delivery.
  • Companies and organizations that need to inspect a finished product immediately before shipment.
  • Companies and organizations that need to examine and ensure that the conformance of subassemblies may be obscured and impossible to inspect, subsequently are thoroughly examined.
  • Organizations that need to inspect a first production piece to check for compliance with engineering drawings.
  • Organisations that intend to inspect castings, forgings, and machined parts in order to prove tooling before embarking on production runs.

Benefits of Source Inspection Audit

  • Enables the reviewing of the supplier’s processing records to establish all plant manufacturing, inspection and test operations have been carried out and properly recorded.
  • Enables the checking for evidence that any measuring equipment used in prior inspections or tests was under a system of calibrations control, and within calibration at the time the inspections or tests were performed.
  • Ensures the verification of the product complies with pertinent engineering drawings.
  • Ensures that product identification marking or labelling requirements set out in drawings or associated specifications are properly observed.

Business Impact

  • Determines the status of any related non conformance report, waivers or deviations, and how these bear upon the acceptability of the product.
  • Ensures that products inspected in the process conform to assembly drawings to the appropriate degree for the stage of manufacturing at which they are inspected.
