OHSAS 18001 – Occupational Health and Safety Quality Management Standard is likely to be replaced by Standards ISO 45001 (October 2016)

OHSAS 18001 has been ISO measure of quality assurance that has been specifically dedicated to Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S). This standard is undergoing revision like other standards after about 9 Years. The standard is developed to be in line with all other management standards with a 10 element structure and some new terms and principles. However the focus of the standard has not shifted form eliminating potential risks associated with Occupational Health and Safety management requirements.

The applicability of the certification is extensive and will include all organizations whose employees are exposed to hazards and potential hazards in the process of their work. The requirements that are set by ISO 45001 are all aimed at creating an effective management strategy in organizations to reduce and ultimately eradicate the risks involved with the work of their employees. • There is also a requirement by the ISO 45001 for organizations to develop effective monitoring of occupational health and safety management system and the need for conducting independent audits on the effectiveness of the management system
